Astragalus root cs

Astragalus Root, c/s

Astragalus membranaceus

Origin: China

Astragalus is native to Mongolia and China. It is a tonic herb that can be incorporated into soups and stews. It is used to support immunity and general well-being. Often used in aiding recovery from wasting diseases or to strengthen a person's natural defences against illness.

"Do not use with fever or during pregnancy. High (more than 30 g day) doses may induce high blood pressure, increased heart rate, insomnia, overstimulation, and/or palpitations. No botanist knows all the species of Astragalus, and some very toxic ones look pretty much like the innocuous ones. Some may contain dangerous levels of selenium." (Handbook of Herbal Medicine, p395)
