Rooibos, pronounced "ROY-BOSS", is native to Cape Town, South Africa. It is a perennial shrub of the fyrbos kingdom. The leaves are used to make a tisane (herbal beverage) that is naturally caffeine-free. Delicious hot or cold, it is commonly enjoyed in South Africa as a hot beverage with milk and sweetened with honey or sugar. Commonly called: Bush tea, Red tea (England), Rooibos Tea. The flavor is slightly sweet and fruity. Caffeine free.

The needle-like leaves of the Aspalathus linearis, or Rooibos plant have been used to make a delicious tea for generations, specifically in its native region of South Africa. It is grown in the fynbos of South Africa, which is a belt of shrubland in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces usually in Cederberg. The red color of the leaves comes from an oxidation process, (also commonly called fermentation in tea processing) and unoxidized “green rooibos” is also produced. Green rooibos has a taste similar to that of green tea, with a grassy quality. On the other hand, traditional red rooibos is more malty, with a sweet aroma. We have many rooibos blends here at Little Woods, such as our Royal Pomander!
